Wickham played for a PFA Free Agents XI against United's Under-21s on Wednesday, and he scored a brilliant goal. The former Sunderland striker took aim from long-range and bamboozled the goalkeeper, as his effort found the back of the net.

United equalised through Shea Lacey, who also scored a superb goal; he took aim from the edge of the box and curled an effort into the top corner. The game ended 1-1, and Wickham will hope his showing has piqued the interest of Football League clubs in need of a striker.

Wickham left Charlton Athletic in 2024 and has not had a club since, but has played for the likes of Sunderland, Crystal Palace, and Cardiff City throughout a varied career. He is 32, and his strike against United is unlikely to have done him any harm when it comes to his search for a new club.
