Sony has officially revealed a new PlayStation 5 controller celebrating the 20th anniversary of God of War. The PlayStation 5 launched with white DualSense controllers, with Sony introducing a few variations over the years. PS5 variations have included a rather sleek Astro Bot-themed controller, limited-time controllers themed after new video game releases, and the premium DualSense Edge line of controllers.
For the most part, the latest PlayStation State of Play focused on new video games on the way for the PS5. The presentation started with a trailer for Saros, an upcoming PS5 exclusive with serious Returnal vibes, and ended with a look at Wolverine gameplay. However, Sony also spent some time during the event to discuss some of its upcoming hardware. It was revealed that Sony is going to start selling PlayStation wireless speakers, and it was also revealed that a brand-new controller is on the way as well.
God of War PS5 Controller
The God of War 20th Anniversary Limited Edition PS5 DualSense wireless controller will launch at some point in October, but a specific date was not revealed. Pre-orders for the God of War PS5 controller will go live on October 3 at 10am ET in the US through PlayStation Direct. Participating retailers will also be accepting pre-orders for the special God of War controller. Those in the UK, France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg will be able to pre-order the controller at 10am local time that day. The controller will cost $84.99 once pre-orders go live on October 3.
The new God of War PS5 controller looks pretty snazzy. It’s white to reflect Kratos’ skin, and has his scarlet tattoo on the right side. The d-pad and button symbols are scarlet as well to match the tattoo. It’s a neat-looking PS5 DualSense variant, and while there are undoubtedly fans excited to pick it up, there are others that have expressed their disappointment that this was the only God of War announcement at the show.
The State of Play didn’t include any kind of update on the God of War TV series in development for Prime Video, and it also had no new game reveals. A God of War game based on Egyptian mythology is rumored to be in development, and it’s also believed that a 2D God of War game that takes place in Greece is also in the works. Neither project has been announced at this time, and it seems God of War fans will simply have to wait for more information.
