Bayer Leverkusen chief Simon Rolfes has revealed what manager Xabi Alonso has told him about his plans for the future.

Alonso has enjoyed an impressive stint as Leverkusen boss. His side beat Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title last season and currently sit in second spot in the table. Alonso's achievements with Leverkusen have seen him linked with a move to Real Madrid to succeed Carlo Ancelotti as first-team coach.

A move to Madrid would see Alonso return to the club where he won La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League as a player. However, Leverkusen are eager to keep hold of their manager, and sporting director Rolfes has now issued an update on the current situation as well as the speculation surrounding Alonso's future.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes said: "No, he's staying, that's it. He told me that there was nothing. He has a contract with us."

Alonso has a contract at Leverkusen that runs until 2026 and he looks set to stay, as things stand. Meanwhile, Ancelotti's future at Real Madrid remains the spotlight, with the Italian once again being linked with the Brazil job following Dorival Jr's sacking.
