Furious Forest owner Marinakis is hoping that City will rival Spurs in the transfer race for Gibbs-White, according to . At the end of last season, the England international told Marinakis that he would only leave Forest "for a certain level of club", and the Greek owner does not believe that Spurs fall into that bracket.

Marinakis is said to be 'furious' over Tottenham's approach for Gibbs-White, but they haven't given up hope of securing a transfer for the 25-year-old. Spurs will await the outcome of Forest's legal challenge before deciding on next steps.

Pep Guardiola has brought in Ryan Cherki from Lyon, Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan and 18-year-old Norwegian sensation Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg. Gibbs-White was surprisingly left out of the Forest squad that flew to Portugal for a pre-season camp on Monday. However, John Percy of The Telegraph has reported that the midfielder was not included "due to a private and personal matter completely unrelated to football" and it is expected to link up with his team-mates later in the week.
